ITV Racing Tips and Previews (Saturday 9th May 2026)

Plenty to look forward to on ITV Racing on Saturday with the bulk of the action coming from Lingfield and Ascot but we also have the Swinton Hurdle from Haydock.

The Group 3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes is the highlight from Lingfield as well as Oaks and Derby Trials.

Ascot hosts a competitive card with the Victoria Cup the feature race where there is a prize pool of over £50,000 with twenty-nine horses heading to post.

Lingfield 12.55 William Hill Epic Boosts Handicap (Class 4) 1m2f

A competitive opener but you can see why TWISTING PHYSICS tops the betting.

He was only beaten three lengths on reappearance and that form has already been franked with the winner following up at Epsom. He is still completely unexposed over a mile and a quarter and looks to have found a good opening here.

Noble Horizon ran well at York on final start last season and looks the type to do better again this season. He is off an unchanged mark on debut for his new yard so could threaten most.

Double Red arrives in winning form but this is a fair bit tougher and he is 5lb higher.

Haydock 1.15 Pertemps Network Swinton Handicap Hurdle (Premier Handicap) 1m7f144y

Time for some summer Jumps racing on ITV on Saturday and I can see GIBBS ISLAND running a big race here.

He has been coming back down the weights and was just given too much to do when a closing seventh in the County at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen. We know this ground is perfect and off a 1lb lower mark if he builds on that latest run he could be a danger to all in this.

Tellherthename was also poorly placed when down the field in the Country. He strictly has ground to make up with the selection on that form but shouldn’t be dismissed with Dan Skelton still in terrific form. Indemnity was thriving when last seen but this is tougher and he is up in the weights too.

Lingfield 1.28 William Hill Oaks Trial Fillies’ Stakes (Listed) 1m3f133y

Only the five runners heading to post but a lot of talent on show and ROMANTIC SYMPHONY is looking to preserve her unbeaten record.

She stayed on strongly to make a winning start at Newmarket and then won as expected on reappearance at Kempton. She has more to come over this trip back on turf and is one to keep firmly on side for now.

Aidan O’Brien won this 12 months ago with Giselle and Ryan Moore rides Cameo this time. She needed the run on return at the Curragh but if stepping forward could easily emerge as the danger.

Bloom has more to come as well but probably needs more time and experience.

Bet on ROMANTIC SYMPHONY To Win at 13/8 with bet365

Ascot 1.45 Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% British EBF Fillies’ Handicap (Class 2) 1m

Hard to rule out any of these with confidence but POLITELY definitely appeals from a value perspective.

She is down the bottom of the weights and comes here on a steep upward curve having won a maiden at Lingfield and then followed up on handicap debut at Wolverhampton.

If she can transfer that progressive form back on turf then she should run well and is a nice price in the market too.

Ghaiyyath filly Zgharta disappointed in France when last seen but that was a Listed race and back in a handicap here could be a big danger as the betting is suggesting.

Alobayyah has only had three starts and now handicapping is another one that could run well especially dropping back to a straight mile like this.

Lingfield 1.58 William Hill Lingfield Derby Trial Stakes (Listed) 1m3f133y

I have been really impressed with MAHO BAY so far and I’m hopeful he can remain unbeaten here. He bolted up on debut at Kempton and then given time returned with a really promising win at Newmarket last month.

He lowered the colours of Amadeus Mozart that day and I think it is form that will work out in time. He has plenty of size and substance and should keep improving for a while yet especially now tackling a mile and a half.

Maltese Cross showed a good attitude to make a winning return at Newbury but they were bunched at the finish and while I do think he is promising I think he has enough to find with the Godolphin hotpot.

Isaac Newton throws further spice to the mix and with a run under his belt can step forward here.

Bet on MAHO BAY To Win at 13/8 with BoyleSports

Ascot 2.20 Carey Group Victoria Cup (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 7f

The Victoria Cup is always a great race and I’m keen on DEFENCE MINISTER going close here for Wathnan. He failed to fire last season but made no mistake on reappearance at Kempton winning in good style. He is lightly raced and remains well handicapped.

If he builds on that promising performance he could definitely get involved here with this his optimum trip if they go a good gallop which they almost certainly will.

Mudbir still has potential having only had the six career starts to date. He won fresh last season so despite lacking a run looks a big player.

Shiplake arrives full of confidence eyeing up a hat-trick and is another one I can see running well along with course specialist Hickory under Saffie Osborne.

Bet on DEFENCE MINISTER Each Way at 8/1 with bet365

Lingfield 2.40 William Hill Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3) 7f

Both Copacabana Sands and Royal Velvet look opposable at short prices so DASH OF AZURE could be the value play.

She impressed winning at Thirsk last season and then was highly tried in two good races at Ascot and in France on final outing. She has more to come this season and won first time out last year which is encouraging.

The yard are a bit quiet but they should start hitting top gear soon and at the prices she is worth playing.

Royal Velvet has won 2 of her last 3 and was much the best at Newmarket last month. If she is in the same form she should have a chance in this.

Of the rest La Brodeuse could go better than her price suggests but at the same time enough to prove at present.

Bet on DASH OF AZURE To Win at 4/1 with talkSPORT BET

Ascot 2.55 Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% Italy Handicap (Class 3) 1m3f211y

This looks a great chance for VALEDICTORY to get back to winning ways. He won as his price suggested at Chelmsford on sole start last season and then looked a bit unlucky to miss a neck on return at Newbury.

The winner Rathgar has already franked the form winning at Newbury since and this step up to a mile and a half can bring about further progression too so clearly tons going for him.

Opportunity needs to settle better but it is still early days for him having only had four career starts and it would be no surprise to see a big run here on return so he looks the danger.

Bulletin and Serenity Blue look set to fight it out for the remaining place.

Lingfield 3.15 William Hill Each Way Extra Handicap (Class 3) 7f135y

I thought that was an eye-catching run from BACK IN BLACK to finish fourth in the Spring Cup on return at Newbury.

If he can settle better here then he could have a bit in hand off this mark. This trip should suit and if they go an honest gallop he will have this run to suit.

Apotheosis blew out at Meydan on penultimate start but was back to form denied just a neck when last seen and given his largely unexposed profile if he produces his best he will make a race of it.

Mr Swivell is another one capable and he did run well fresh last season too which is encouraging.

My top tip for ITV Racing on Saturday

I’ve backed the Godolphin double on Saturday! Both horses are unbeaten and looking to stay that way.

ROMANTIC SYMPHONY is hoping to make it 3-3 and win the Oaks Trial at Lingfield and MAHO BAY himself is eyeing up the hat-trick in the Derby Trial having looked so impressive at Newmarket on reappearance.
