The San Antonio Spurs will attempt to take a commanding 3-1 lead over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. It’s unclear whether Victor Wembanyama will return for the Game 4 road matchup.

After missing Game 3, Wembanyama is questionable for Sunday’s matchup as he progresses through the NBA’s concussion protocol.

“We are still working through the process and continuing to work with the NBA,” Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said via the San Antonio Express News’ Tom Osborn.

Wembanyama suffered his concussion on Tuesday. He will have had just under five days to recover when the Spurs take the floor on Sunday.

Wembanyama has separated himself as one of the league’s top players during a dominant season. The French phenom averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists on .512/.349/.827 shooting splits. He posted 1.0 steals and 3.1 blocks per game en route to earning a unanimous Defensive Player Of The Year selection.

The Spurs were 15.2 points better per 100 possessions with him on the court vs. off during the regular season, the NBA’s second-highest net rating swing, behind only Nikola Jokic (+16.3), per CleaningTheGlass. Wembanyama scored 35 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from three during the Spurs’ 111-98 Game 1 victory over the Trail Blazers.

San Antonio’s supporting cast stepped up amid Wembanyama’s absence during a 120-108 Game 3 win on Friday. Stephon Castle scored 33 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while rookie guard Dylan Harper posted a career-high 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting.

The Spurs’ defense held Trail Blazers star Deni Avdija to 3-of-15 shooting.
