Is Jaylen Waddle on verge of massive breakout season with Broncos?

The Denver Broncos’ biggest acquisition this offseason was a trade for Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins. He’s expected to step in as the immediate No. 1 target in the passing game for Bo Nix, and it sounds like Waddle could have a breakout year in his first season working with head coach Sean Payton.

While talking with Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, beat reporter Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports claims that Payton plans on lining the 27-year-old wide receiver all over the field, including the backfield. The plans in Denver are expected to heavily feature Waddle throughout the season.

“We see it all over the field,” Stevens said about Waddle’s talent. “Whether it’s deep, whether it’s medium, whether it’s short, Jaylen Waddle’s going to open up this offense in a way that the Broncos have not had in a very, very long time. And it’s gonna impact all three levels.

“He’s going to be lined up in the backfield, he’s going to lineup out wide, he’s going to lineup inside. He’s going to be everywhere,” Stevens continued. “He is going to be Sean Payton’s and Davis Webb’s toy that they just get to use, and use it to abuse defenses.”

Jaylen Waddle has flashed major potential throughout the first five years in the NFL. While his production has slightly fallen the past two seasons, the former first-round pick was playing in a lackadaisical offense that was filled with issues. He joins Denver with 373 receptions, 5,039 receiving yards, and 26 touchdowns through 78 games played.

We’ll see just how involved Waddle is in the Broncos’ offense in Week 1. Denver is set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the season’s first “Monday Night Football” matchup of the year.
