Indiana adds Duke transfer to backcourt
The Indiana Hoosiers have lost five players to the transfer portal so far, but they picked up a commitment this week from former Duke guard Darren Harris, as per Dushawn London of 247Sports. Darren Harris is Indiana’s second commitment so far out of the transfer portal alongside Jaeden Mustaf who last played at Georgia Tech. The Hoosiers are still in the running for other top portal players.
With Harris, the Hoosiers are hoping they can tap in to another level for him as he’s played only sparingly during his first two seasons of college basketball at Duke. He’s come off the bench both those years and has yet to crack over 10 minutes per game.
This past season, Harris appeared in 36 games for the Blue Devils at a little over nine minutes per game. He averaged 3.3 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists with splits of 36.3 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 76.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Harris was originally a four-star recruit and one the best shooting guard prospects in the country coming out of high school. He has good size for a guard and could potentially have a breakout season. Harris and Mustaf will join a talented group of newcomers that also includes incoming freshmen Vaughn Karvala, Trevor Manhertz, and Prince Alexander-Moody.
This past season was Indiana’s first under new head coach Darian DeVries. DeVries took the job after only one season at West Virginia. The Hoosiers finished 18-14 overall and 9-11 in Big Ten Conference play. They missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season.
