Hurricanes sign Nicolas Deslauriers to two-year contract extension during Stanley Cup parade
The Carolina Hurricanes used their Stanley Cup championship celebration to announce another piece of offseason business, signing veteran forward Nicolas Deslauriers to a two-year contract extension during the team’s victory parade in Raleigh on Saturday afternoon.
General manager Eric Tulsky revealed the deal at the parade, and Deslauriers signed the contract on stage in front of fans. The agreement is worth $1.75 million over two seasons and carries an average annual value of $875,000. Deslauriers will earn $850,000 in 2026-27 and $900,000 in 2027-28. The 35-year-old was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Carolina acquired Deslauriers from the Philadelphia Flyers on March 6 ahead of the NHL trade deadline. The Hurricanes sent a seventh-round draft pick to Philadelphia in exchange for the veteran winger, adding depth and physicality for their playoff push.
Following the trade, Deslauriers appeared in seven regular-season games with Carolina, recording one assist and 35 hits while adding five penalty minutes. Across his eight appearances with the Hurricanes, including one playoff game, he produced 39 hits. His only postseason appearance came during Carolina’s first-round series against the Ottawa Senators, when he logged 3:09 of ice time as the Hurricanes completed a four-game sweep.
Before joining Carolina, Deslauriers played 24 games with the Flyers during the 2025-26 season, amassing one assist, 85 hits, and 33 penalty minutes while averaging 8:05 of ice time per game. Over four seasons in Philadelphia, he garnered nine goals, 11 assists, 20 points, 273 penalty minutes, and 665 hits in 195 games.
Originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the third round (No. 84 overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Deslauriers has spent 13 NHL seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Flyers, and Hurricanes. Across 708 regular-season games, he has accumulated 106 points on 53 goals and 53 assists, along with 799 penalty minutes and 2,236 hits.
The extension will keep Deslauriers in Carolina as a depth winger as the reigning Stanley Cup champions prepare to defend their title next season.
