Hurricanes’ Sebastian Aho passes Eric Staal with Game 4 feat vs. Canadiens
The Carolina Hurricanes are pouring it on in Game 4 against the Montreal Canadiens. Jakub Dobes made key saves early in the contest. However, Sebastian Aho and his teammates have been all over the Habs for most of this game. And they are not letting their foot off the gas pedal.
Carolina scored three goals in the first period as they dominated play. One of these goals came on the power play. Aho one-timed a pass from Nikolaj Ehlers into the net for the game’s opening goal. It was his fourth goal of the playoffs, but it was also historic in nature.
This goal is Aho’s 11th career power play goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He is now the Hurricanes’ record holder for most career power play goals in the postseason, according to NHL Public Relations. This includes the team’s time as the Hartford Whalers from 1979 to 1997. The previous record holder was Eric Staal, who had 10 playoff power play goals.
Aho has not had his most productive postseason. However, he has come up big in the Eastern Conference Finals. For instance, the Hurricanes star provided a screen on the team’s winning goal during overtime in Game 3. He was initially credited with the goal before the credit was eventually given to Andrei Svechnikov.
Whether Aho has been productive throughout the postseason means little at this point. He is currently producing when the team needs him most. And if he can continue with this performance, the Hurricanes could find themselves in their first Stanley Cup Final since 2006.
