Hurricanes mascot Stormy welcomes ‘muppet reject’ Gritty to hell
Gritty might be the most well-known mascot in the entire National Hockey League and one of the most easily identifiable mascots in all of professional sports, but he has some competition now that is talking quite the big game.
The eye-popping, chaotic, googly-eyed orange mascot of the Philadelphia Flyers is known for his knack of absurd, unpredictable antics. Among those antics were tossing a stuffed penguin from the upper levels of Xfinity Mobile Arena during their first-round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, while also often throwing cakes into the faces of opposition fans.
However, Gritty has some competition now in the form of Stormy, the red pig official mascot of the Carolina Hurricanes, who is also known for his in-game antics.
On his official X feed, Stormy had a direct message to Gritty:
“Welcome to hell you muppet reject,” Stormy wrote on X.
So far, the series has gone the way of Stormy and the Hurricanes, who defeated the Flyers by a 3-0 final score at Lenovo Center in Game 1 on Saturday afternoon. The red-hot Logan Stankoven continued his impressive play in the postseason, scoring twice to add to his total of six playoff goals, tied for the most among all active playoff goal scorers.
Frederik Andersen also stopped all 19 shots from the Flyers that he faced, picking up his seventh career playoff shutout.
Gritty will have the chance to earn some well-deserved trash talking against Stormy and the Hurricanes if the Flyers are able to knot the series at one game apiece on Monday in Game 2.
