How Stephen Curry Helped Shape Tobe Nwigwe’s Most Ambitious Album Yet
Stephen Curry’s influence on Tobe Nwigwe stretches far beyond their 2023 collaboration. Following an intimate album preview at New York City’s Blue Note on June 23, Nwigwe shared the biggest lesson he took from the Golden State Warriors star, and it’s one he carried into what he calls his most ambitious project yet.
Speaking after the performance, Nwigwe recalled Curry’s preparation before they recorded “Lil Fish, Big Pond” together.
“He told me he practiced the verse 50 to 100 times before we linked up,” Nwigwe said. “I know rappers that don’t even do that.”
That commitment left a lasting impression on the Houston artist, whose upcoming album, The Bridge, arrives on Aug. 21.

Stephen Curry’s Attention to Detail Left Its Mark
Curry and Nwigwe first connected after the rapper created music for Underrated, the documentary chronicling Curry’s rise, per BleacherReport. Their relationship later grew into “Lil Fish, Big Pond,” with Curry contributing a verse and appearing in the music video.
Nwigwe previously pointed to Curry’s relentless preparation as the foundation of his success, noting that the four-time NBA champion relies on discipline and attention to detail rather than extraordinary gifts.
Those same qualities appeared throughout Monday night’s performance. Nwigwe previewed several songs from The Bridge, including “Chineke,” “Disguise” with Fat Nwigwe, “Ultrasound,” “All or Nothing” featuring Labrinth, and “Perfection.” He closed with fan favorites “Try Jesus” and “Fye Fye,” turning the packed venue into a celebration.
The audience included actress Tasha Smith, DJ Drewski, Peter Gunz, Omari Dorsey, Godfrey, designer Michael Graham, and others. The Bridge releases Aug. 21 through Human Resources and features collaborations with Busta Rhymes, Sia, Labrinth, Jay Electronica, Scarface, Paul Wall, and more.
