How Nebraska’ 2027 QB commit earned 5-star grade
Nebraska and head coach Matt Rhule have been great on the College Football Recruiting trail. They currently have the 18th-ranked class for the Class of 2027, which is led by quarterback Trae Taylor.
Taylor committed to Nebraska in May and, at the time, was the third-ranked quarterback in the class, while also being ranked as a four-star recruit. Now, Taylor is getting a new grade, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
“Following today’s Rivals300 update, Five-Star QB Trae Taylor is now the No. 1 QB in the 2027 Rivals Industry Rankings,” Fawcett posted on X, formerly Twitter.
It has been a fantastic rise to the top-ranked quarterback for Taylor. Taylor was recently named the Elite 11 MVP and was the 60th overall recruit in the class. Still, he was impressive at the event, with many coaches and analysts calling him the most impressive quarterback present. He won the MVP of the first day, before winning the MVP award for the entire event.
Rivals now has him ranked as the number one quarterback, as well as the 14th overall player. Currently, 247Sports ranks him as the top quarterback and eighth-ranked player, while ESPN still has him as the second quarterback and 41st-ranked player in the class. Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power, also likes what he has seen from Taylor.
“Well-rounded, polished signal caller with one of the stronger arms in the 2027 cycle. Measured at a shade under 6-foot-3, 200 pounds with 9.25-inch hands prior to his senior season. Brings a combination of high-end arm talent and refinement to the table. Has a whippy release that uncoils quickly to generate fast arm action. Added arm strength in the off-season prior to his senior year,” Power said of the prospect. “Can drive the football to all areas of the field with palpable zip. Rips throws out to the far hash and up the seam. Throws a tight spiral that cuts through the wind. Has proven to be accurate in multiple settings. Hyper-trained and plays with a good level of consistency as a passer”
Taylor is one of 22 commitments that Nebraska has for the Class of 2027. The class is currently ranked 18th in the nation and sixth in the Big Ten.
