How many goals does Harry Kane have for England and where does he rank among all-time record

Harry Kane can extend his record as England’s all-time leading scorer at this summer’s World Cup.

However, he has a long way to go to become the highest-scoring player in international football history.

Kane will captain the Three Lions in North America as they look to end their 60-year wait for a second World Cup triumph.

Thomas Tuchel’s side face Croatia, Ghana and Panama during the group stage.

Those matches follow pre-tournament friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica in June.

Kane has already scored eight goals across 11 World Cup appearances for England.

Those include six at the 2018 tournament on his way to winning the golden boot.

Where does his England tally stack up against the rest of the world, though?

How many goals has Kane scored for England?

Since making his Three Lions debut aged 21 in March 2015, Kane has scored 78 goals in 112 caps.

The first of those came just seconds after he was introduced against Lithuania by Roy Hodgson for his first cap.

Kane would have to wait eight years to surpass Wayne Rooney as England’s record scorer.

His 54th international strike saw the former Tottenham Hotspur striker move ahead of Rooney.

England's all-time top scorers

  1. Harry Kane – 78
  2. Wayne Rooney – 53
  3. Bobby Charlton – 49
  4. Gary Lineker – 48
  5. Jimmy Greaves – 44

The record-breaking effort came from the penalty spot in a 2-1 win over Italy in March 2023 during qualifying for Euro 2024.

Kane is also the fifth-highest appearance maker in England history behind Peter Shilton, Rooney, David Beckham and Steven Gerrard.

Shilton’s record of 125 will remain intact beyond the World Cup, with Kane unable to surpass it even if England reach the final.

The 32-year-old also has a long way to go to become the all-time top scorer in international football.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the current record holder with 143 goals in 226 caps for Portugal.

Kane is 10th on the all-time list, tied with former Iraq forward Hussein Saeed.

Meanwhile, he is ranked sixth amongst active players, with Lionel Messi, Romelu Lukaku, Robert Lewandowski and Neymar also ahead of him.

Who is England’s leading World Cup scorer?

Despite winning the golden boot at the 2018 World Cup, Kane is not yet England’s top scorer at the World Cup.

That honour instead belongs to Gary Lineker, who scored 10 times in 12 appearances at the finals.

Kane is just two goals behind, though, having played a match less across his first two tournaments.

He is only halfway to equalling Miroslav Klose’s record as the all-time top scorer in World Cup history.

The former Germany striker scored 16 goals in 24 appearances as well as lifting the trophy in 2014.
