How Buck Showalter would inspire Mets on heels of 12-game losing streak

As the New York Mets snapped their 12-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night, the team is still looking to overcome a rough start to the season. Now, with the Mets dealing with an injury to star Francisco Lindor, especially after dealing with Juan Soto’s issues, former manager Buck Showalter would give his thoughts on the slow start.

Showalter would appear on “Foul Territory” and was asked about New York’s struggles, with the former manager speaking about how the game could be grueling and humbling. However, would share his confidence in the team turning a corner at some point with how talented they are.

“Nobody’s as bad as the game makes you think you are, and nobody’s as good as a game sometimes,” Showalter said. “Sometimes a ball looks like a watermelon, and sometimes it looks like a little golf ball, and the game gets sped up sometimes, and the game gets slowed down, but they’re better than this,” Showalter said. “We all know that. And I’m a firm believer, guys, that you seek your level, whatever it is, there’s too many games being played. If you have a strength, it’ll show up.”

“If you have a weakness, it’ll show up. And the challenge is to keep a grip on reality while those around you are saying the sky is falling, you know, I said, ‘Well, nobody’s been in the playoffs after losing 12 games. Well, let’s be the first. Let’s be the first.’ Hey, two weeks from now, especially where they are in their schedule. You could be talking about the Go-Go Mets,” Showalter continued.

Showalter would continue talking about how good the Mets are with their pitching depth and if they can stay healthy, which he would mention is a “big prerequisite,” they’ll be better.

At any rate, New York looks to keep the winning ways going with another game against the Twins to close out the series on Thursday.
