History making Seattle Seahawks destroy Drake Maye to claim emphatic Super Bowl 60 glory
Seattle Seahawks claimed a second Super Bowl in franchise history, an inspired defense blasting them to a domination of the New England Patriots.
Jason Myers kicked a Super Bowl record five field goals, to go with a touchdown on offense and defense – the latter also adding six sacks of Drake Maye and three turnovers.

Super Bowls in Seattle
Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl appearances
Super Bowl LX – Seattle Seahawks 29-13 New England Patriots
Super Bowl XLVIX – New England Patriots 28-24 Seattle Seahawks
Super Bowl XLVIII – Seattle Seahawks 43-8 Denver Broncos
Super Bowl XL – Pittsburgh Steelers 21-10 Seattle Seahawks
Facing the prospect of becoming the first team to be shut out in Super Bowl history, the Pats, looking to become the first team to win a seventh Lombardi hinted at a comeback.
But in Mike Macdonald’s second season in charge in the Pacific North West his defense – led by British defensive coordinator Aden Durde – that had dominated for three quarters, came to life again.
With two more turnovers leading to touchdowns, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was denied the chance to become the first man to win the Super Bowl as both a player and coach with the same team.
And the glory was Seattles, as a 19-0 lead at the start of the fourth quarter held firm for a 29-13 success in California.
On a gloriously sunny February Sunday in Santa Clara, the Seahawks also added a slice of revenge having lost Super Bowl XLIX to the Patriots 11 years ago.
MVP Kenneth Walker was the star, alongside a defensive display described by Cris Collinsworth in the NBC broadcast as the best in the NFL.
Walker added 135 rushing yards and 26 receiving to his brilliant performances in the NFC title game and the divisional round.
He ended the playoffs with 417 scrimmage yards, and became the first running back to win the award since the legendary Terrell Davis for Denver in 1998.
But it was the defense who laid the foundation, as the shadow-boxing inspired Dark Side of the 2025 season, emulated the iconic heroes of the Legion of Boom and the team’s only Super Bowl 12 years ago.
Patriots quarterback Maye had a night to forget as the second year signal caller was left with no answer to an inspired defensive front from the Seahawks.

Sam Darnold fared little better, as the Patriots defense caused the 28-year-old plenty of problems but he was a steady hand in comparison to a rash Maye.
One of five quarterbacks to be picked in the first round of the fabled 2018 class it is the second overall pick that year who beats out Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and No 1 Baker Mayfield to a first Super Bowl.
The pivotal moment fittingly came with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter after the Patriots had ended their run of three outs with a first down courtesy of a pass interference call.
But almost immediately Derick Hall – the miracle baby whose mother rejected doctor’s advice to turn off his life support machine – forced a Maye fumble to go with two sacks.
Byron Murphy pounced on the loose ball to give Seattle possession 37 yards out and Darnold steered his team into the endzone courtesy of a 16-yard strike to tight end AJ Barner.
Suddenly the Patriots burst into life, a three-play 65-yard drive in under a minute got Vrabel’s team on the board.
How the Seahawks won Super Bowl 60
1st Quarter
Seattle 3-0 New England – Jason Myers 33-yard field goal
2nd Quarter
Seattle 6-0 New England – Jason Myers 39-yard field goal
Seattle 9-0 New England – Jason Myers 41-yard field goal
3rd Quarter
Seattle 12-0 New England – Jason Myers 41-yard field goal
4th Quarter
Seattle 19-0 New England – AJ Barner 14-yard touchdown catch. Extra point good
Seattle 19-7 New England – Mack Hollins 35-yard touchdown catch. Extra point good
Seattle 22-7 New England – Jason Myers 26-yard field goal
Seattle 29-7 New England – Uchenna Nwosu 44-yard fumble recovery
Seattle 29-13 New England – Ramondre Stevenson 7-yard touchdown catch
And with Seattle threatening to creak for the first time, Maye’s legs took them up towards halfway. But he turned villain almost immediately, his deep shot down field, picked off by Julian Love.
To the surprise of no-one, it was three points rather than six as Myers also kicked himself into the record books with a fifth field goal of the game.
As defender after defender made play after play for the Seahawks, the game and the Lombardi was sealed when Uchenna Nwuso capitalised on another forced fumble.
Returning the ball 44-yards to a delirious Seattle-packed stand, the game was all but over.
Rhamondre Stevenson added a spectacular grab for last score of the game, but with the Patriots 16-points down, their 2-point attempt failed, as did their attempt at an onside kick.
Ten years on from Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson and the Legion of Boom being denied a repeat by Brady, Gronk and the Patriots dynasty, there was revenge for the Seahawks and their 12s.
Macdonald, a free agency quarterback and this stunningly, brilliant, all-action defense earned the title world champions.
A defense inspired by the legendary Legion have nicknamed themselves The Dark Side.
And as their week long trip down the Pacific coast proved, the force is very strong in the North West.
