Harry Kane wanted by Barcelona presidential candidate for one specific reason

A contender to become the next Barcelona president has revealed his intent to try and sign Harry Kane.

And the 53-year-old has hinted at some ambitious transfer plans should he be selected to become president.

Speaking to Spanish media, Vilajoana, who has already made contact with Kane’s camp, discussed the England captain.

He also explained the exact reason why he wants a player like Kane to head to Spain and lead the line for the club.

Vilajoana said with a smile: “Kane is one of the options [to sign].

“I put Harry Kane as an example, because his profile is not an easy one to produce at La Masia.

“He’s a very good goalscorer, he has a lot of talent, he can link play very well, drop deeper, and is one of the players that can play in tight spaces.

“He has a lot of skills that complement the Barcelona style of play. He’s an example of a player that could fit.”

La Masia, Barcelona’s famed youth academy, has produced a whole host of superstars, including Lionel Messi, Lamine Yamal and more.

But they typically see tricky, skilful players come out of the academy, rather than strikers of Kane’s mould.

And that is why Vilajoana is looking to potentially make the ambitious move to bring him to Barca should he become president.

‘We can make it happen’

Vilajoana had already spoken about his aim of signing Kane for Barcelona earlier this month, if he replaces Laporta.

He said: “Caring for our La Masia players has been my utmost priority, but we will always need the ability to attract elite talent.

“We can make it happen. By putting an end to financial chaos and returning to the 1:1 rule.

“A signing for me is a signing for an ambitious Barcelona.”

Kane has been linked with Barca over the last few months, with contract talks with Bayern yet to be opened.

His current deal in Germany comes to an end in 2027.

Kane addresses future

With there still being some doubt over Kane’s future at Bayern, his chances of replacing Robert Lewandowski at Barca live on.

But he doesn’t seem to be planning on leaving the Bundesliga just yet – at least based on what he said at the end of 2025.

Kane said in November: “The move to Bayern was one of the best decisions of my life. I’m happy here. I’m open to staying longer.

“We will have discussions about a possible new contract in the coming months. I have just over 18 months left on my contract. I’m sure there will be talks soon.”

And specifically on links to Barcelona, he later admitted: saying: “I haven’t had any contact with anyone, nobody has contacted me.

“I feel very comfortable in the current situation, even though we haven’t yet discussed my situation with Bayern.

“There’s no rush. I’m really happy in Munich. You can see that in the way I’m playing. If there’s contact, then we’ll see.

“But I’m not thinking about the new season yet. First up is the World Cup in the summer. And it’s very unlikely that anything will change after this season.”
