Guardians’ Jo Adell gets big update after injury scare vs. Giants

The Cleveland Guardians swung a trade for Jo Adell at the 2026 MLB trade deadline. The power-hitting outfielder joined Cleveland from the Los Angeles Angels. Cleveland hoped he could provide a jolt to their offense. However, he is currently battling a knee injury.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt confirmed that Adell was pulled from Tuesday’s game with knee soreness. This occurred after he fouled a ball off his knee in the first inning. On Wednesday, the Guardians provided a more in-depth update on the status of the injury.

“Feeling better and was set to convene with team doctors on Aug. 19. Out of starting lineup after fouling pitch off himself in first inning on Aug. 18, which prompted exit in the eighth. Knee swelled up,” the update reads, according to MLB.com.

Adell has hit the ground running in his first taste of Guardians baseball. He has three home runs and 11 runs batted in through 13 games to this point. He owns a slash line of .217/.315/.500 with an OPS of .815, as well.

The Guardians are facing an uphill battle for a playoff spot. They own a 61-66 record, tied for third place in the AL Central with the Detroit Tigers. Both teams are 5.5 games back of the division-leading Chicago White Sox. There is certainly an easier road to a Wild Card spot, as the Guardians are 1.5 games back in that race.

Cleveland hopes to have its new slugger back in the lineup soon. Hopefully, the team doctors have good news to share regarding the severity of this injury. The Guardians will look to earn a series victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday afternoon.
