The Gujarat Titans entered IPL 2025 under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2024 campaign. After some strategic buys in the mega-auction, the team followed it with a strong league-stage showing, but their season ultimately ended short of a title push. As GT now heads into IPL 2026, the franchise has largely backed its core, making notable additions to strengthen some areas rather than opting for a complete overhaul.

GT Squad 2025 and their performance

Gujarat Titans finished third on the IPL 2025 points table with nine wins from 14 matches, accumulating 18 points and a positive net run rate of 0.254. Their campaign saw them dominate through the league phase.

GT’s batting unit was one of the most productive of the season, scoring 2684 runs, while the bowling attack conceded 2639. Gill and Sai Sudharsan anchored the top order, with the latter eventually earning the Orange Cap. The bowling unit, led by Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Sai Kishore, delivered regularly.

However, despite finishing in the top four, GT failed in the playoffs. A heavy defeat to Chennai Super Kings in the final league match exposed some areas, and their campaign ended with a loss to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator.

GT's IPL 2026 auction

Heading into IPL 2026, the Titans showed faith in their core by retaining 20 players. Gill continues as captain, with Sudharsan cemented as his long-term opening partner. GT also retained experienced players in Rashid, Jos Buttler, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, and Washington Sundar, respectively.

On the bowling front, Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, and Sai Kishore were kept, giving GT one of the most potent pace-spin combinations in the league. The franchise moved on from a few overseas players, including Gerald Coetzee and Dasun Shanaka.

With limited gaps to fill, Gujarat Titans entered the IPL 2026 mini-auction with a purse of INR 12.9 crore. Their headline signing was Jason Holder, secured for INR 7 crore after a bidding war. Holder brings much-needed fast-bowling all-round option, an area GT lacked after Hardik Pandya’s exit.

GT also invested in youth by picking uncapped pacers Ashok Sharma and Prithvi Raj Yarra. Ashok, the leading wicket-taker in the 2025–26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Tom Banton was brought in as a like-for-like backup for Buttler, while left-arm seamer Luke Wood rounded off the overseas buys.

On paper, the Gujarat Titans look well-prepared for IPL 2026. The addition of Holder provides flexibility in team combinations, while young pacers provide bench strength across a long tournament. Overall, compared to IPL 2025, the Gujarat Titans enter IPL 2026 as a more complete and tactically revamped unit.
