Golden Knights’ Pavel Dorofeyev scores OT winner in Game 5 after injury scare

The Vegas Golden Knights had home ice advantage on Tuesday night for Game 5 against the Anaheim Ducks. They hoped that having the crowd behind them would give them an edge over their upstart opponents. Despite a Pavel Dorofeyev injury scare, Vegas did what they had to do in Game 5.

The Ducks scored the first goal of the game, but it meant nothing in the long run. Dorofeyev scored twice — including the overtime winner after returning from his injury scare — to lead Vegas to a 3-2 win. Vegas now owns a 3-2 series lead ahead of Game 6.

Dorofeyev had a slow start to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but has come alive in recent games. The Golden Knights star now has seven goals this postseason, including three in his last two games. This is his second multi-goal game of the postseason, following a hat trick in the first round against the Utah Mammoth.

The Golden Knights won Game 1 of this series despite having concerns over their level of play. In Game 2, those concerns may have been reinforced when they dropped the contest to the Ducks. Vegas and Anaheim have traded wins in each game of this series.

Vegas has a chance to eliminate the Ducks in Game 6. A win would send them to their first Western Conference Finals since 2023. That year, Vegas defeated the Dallas Stars in six games en route to the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship.

The Ducks are the more inexperienced team by a wide margin. However, they have proven they can hang, to some extent, with the Golden Knights. Hockey fans across the world should tune into Thursday night’s contest as Anaheim battles for its playoff life while Vegas battles for a spot in the West Final.
