Golden Knights’ Mitch Marner reveals ‘patient’ mentality that fueled Game 2 win
The Vegas Golden Knights are two wins away from the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. They were victorious in Game 2 over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 2 of the West Final. Mitch Marner and his teammates needed a comeback in the third period to clinch it. But they got it done thanks to a huge effort from Jack Eichel.
Eichel scored his first goal since April 24 on Friday night. That goal tied the game, but Eichel also provided the assist on Ivan Barbashev’s game-winner later in the third. Vegas came away with a massive 3-1 win, taking both games in Colorado from the Avalanche.
After the game, Marner appeared on SportsCenter. He spoke about what his team tried to do in the third period to come away with the win.
“We just wanted to stay patient with it. We didn’t want to force anything, didn’t want to play too aggressive in the third. Obviously, we knew we needed to get one. But like (ESPN analyst PK Subban) said, great play by (Eichel),” the Golden Knights star said.
Vegas went down 1-0 in the first period after Ross Colton scored. Colton scored his second goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to make it 1-0 Avalanche. Colorado would hold this lead for the vast majority of the game. However, they were unable to hold onto this lead.
The Golden Knights have all of the momentum in this series. And perhaps equally as important, they will have that momentum while also having home ice advantage for the next two games. Game 3 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday night.
