Tottenham name five new captains and four might not start Premier League opener
Tottenham have named Micky van de Ven as one of five new club captains.
Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the news at his press conference ahead of Spurs‘ Premier League opener away to Brentford on Saturday.

The club found themselves in need of a new skipper following the departure of Cristian Romero.
Explaining his decision to name so many captains, De Zerbi said: “The new captain is Micky van de Ven. Second Pedro Porro, third Ben Davies, fourth James Maddison and fifth Archie Gray.
“Why five? Because I want as many captains as possible and they all deserve to be captains.”
But with Van de Ven and Porro injured, and Davies and Maddison unlikely to start against Brentford, Gray could well wear the armband for Spurs’ first game of 2026/27.
The versatile England U21 midfielder has impressed since joining from Leeds two years ago, and he’s clearly earned the trust of his manager.
