Arsenal vs Coventry City predictions
Arsenal are one of the most successful clubs in England, yet you have to go back almost a century to find the last time they won back-to-back league titles.
The Gunners claimed three First Divisions on the bounce between 1933 and 1935, triumphing under three different managers in Herbert Chapman, Joe Shaw and George Allison.
Tom Whittaker, Bertie Mee, George Graham and Arsene Wenger all won the league with Arsenal subsequently, but none of them were able to retain the title. Indeed, no manager in Arsenal’s long history has ever won the league in consecutive years.
That is the goal Mikel Arteta has set for himself this term. Arsenal finally got over the line in the title race in 2025/26, lifting the trophy after finishing as runners-up in the three previous campaigns.
They enter the new season as favourites to triumph once again, a status that was only strengthened by Arsenal’s convincing display in a 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield.
City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all changed managers in 2026, so there is no doubt Arsenal are the team to beat in the upcoming campaign. However, that brings a pressure of its own.
Arsenal vs Coventry City tips
Arsenal take on Coventry City in the opening fixture of the new Premier League campaign.
Tough ask for Coventry
Coventry City are back in the big time for the first time since 2000/01, and they are determined to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
Coventry will draw inspiration from Sunderland and Leeds United, who bucked the recent trend by surviving comfortably last term following promotion the previous year.
However, they will be up against it on matchday one. Having brushed Manchester City aside in the Community Shield, Arsenal are brimming with confidence.
The Emirates Stadium will be rocking on Friday night and Arsenal look set to win their opening game pretty comfortably. Combining this outlook with a great offer from Sky Bet giving 50/1 on an Arsenal win, there is great value to be found in the season opener.

Arsenal attack to fire
Arsenal will be looking to make a statement of intent as they begin the defence of their Premier League crown.
Coventry City will spend much of this game defending, but it would take a monumental performance to shut Arsenal out.
The Gunners scored three times against Manchester City in the Community Shield and there is a good chance they will match that achievement here.
At least one goal either side of half-time is well within reach for Arsenal on Friday.

Who leads line?
Kai Havertz started in the Community Shield and scored Arsenal’s second goal of the afternoon in Cardiff, but he could find himself on the bench here.
Mikel Arteta is likely to alternate between Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres throughout the campaign based on form, fitness and the identity of the opponent.
Gyokeres is arguably a better fit against a team like Coventry City, whereas Havertz should get plenty of minutes against the bigger teams.
The Sweden international’s penalty-box presence will be useful against his former club on Friday evening.
