Golden Knights’ Mark Stone set to make injury return in Game 3 vs. Avalanche
The Vegas Golden Knights are up 2-0 against the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Final. They have won both games on the road and without the help of their captain. Now, they’re getting both back. The Golden Knights are headed home and will get Mark Stone back from injury for Sunday night’s Game 3.
“Mark Stone will play tonight, according to John Tortorella,” The Athletic’s Jesse Granger reported.
Stone has not played since Game 3 of the second round against the Anaheim Ducks with an undisclosed injury. In the nine games he has played this postseason, Stone has seven points. The Golden Knights managed well without him, closing out the Ducks and taking a commanding lead against the Avalanche. Now, they get their captain back for a huge Game 3.
The Avalanche are dealing with a significant injury as well, as Cale Makar has not played yet in this series. The Golden Knights have taken advantage of his absence to take a 2-0 series lead. Makar may not play in Game 3 as he deals with an undisclosed injury.
The Golden Knights were heavy underdogs coming into the series thanks to the Avalanche’s great Presidents’ Trophy season. But with two wins in the bank and Stone coming back, they are firmly in the driver’s seat. They are known for their epic in-arena performances before playoff games, and the crowd should be buzzing on Sunday night.
Stone has been a key part of the Golden Knights’ history in the playoffs. They picked him up at the 2019 NHL trade deadline, and he was named captain shortly after. He lifted the 2023 Stanley Cup and is first in franchise history with 39 playoff goals and 79 playoff points.
Can the Golden Knights take Game 3 and secure a commanding lead? Or will the Avalanche start a comeback with a road win on Sunday night?
