Giants’ Buster Posey completely shuts down Logan Webb trade talks

San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey spoke with reporters on Tuesday. While the Giants are likely going to sell and could trade multiple players before the deadline, starting pitcher Logan Webb will not be on the move. Posey confirmed that San Francisco is not planning to discuss trade offers for the two-time All-Star, via Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

“Buster Posey said he’s not open to trade offers for Logan Webb,” Pavlovic reported.

It has previously been reported that the Giants are not open to trading Webb. Still, rumors often swirl before the deadline. Posey shutting down the rumors will likely lead to Webb trade discussions completely dwindling.

Webb, 29, is one of the best pitchers in the game. Despite underperforming and later dealing with an injury earlier this season, the right-handed hurler looks like an All-Star once again. Webb currently holds a 3.35 ERA to go along with 70 strikeouts across 83.1 innings of work. The Giants clearly believe he can help the ball club get back on track within the next year or two.

If the Giants are unable to find success next year, though, Webb could emerge as a trade candidate. He is under contract through 2028. Unless the team can sign him to an extension, trading him could be an option in the future. For now, it appears that Webb will remain in San Francisco.

The Giants — who are 31-46 and in fourth place in the National League West standings at the moment — will play the Athletics at home on Tuesday night at 9:45 PM EST.
