Giants’ Bryce Eldridge walk-off grand slam caps impossible comeback vs. Nationals
The San Francisco Giants shocked the Washington Nationals with an 11-10 win on Wednesday. San Francisco was trailing by eight runs heading into the 8th inning before completing an incredible comeback. Bryce Eldridge ultimately won the game for the Giants with a jaw-dropping walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 9th inning.

According to Alex Pavlovic, it was the first time the Giants won a game trailing by eight runs heading into the 8th inning since the 1947 season.
“That’s the first time since 1947 that the Giants have won a game when trailing by eight runs heading into the eighth. It all started with a Matt Chapman homer, and Tony Vitello said he came back to dugout after that swing and said ‘stranger things have happened,'” Pavlovic reported.
The Giants have endured ups and downs throughout the season. Perhaps this victory will help San Francisco find its rhythm. The ball club is currently 28-41 and in fourth place in the National League West standings.
Eldridge’s playing time has been a subject of discussion. He was not starting consistently after being promoted to the big leagues despite being a top prospect. Regardless, Eldridge has performed well when given an opportunity. The 21-year-old is now hitting .298/.385/.521 across 28 games played. He now has four home runs as well.
The Giants will look to keep its momentum trending in the right direction moving forward. Their next game is scheduled for Friday night against the Chicago Cubs at home. First pitch will be at 10:15 PM EST in San Francisco.
