Georgia Bulldogs’ huge 5-star OT target sets date for commitment announcement

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs got great recruiting news when it comes to their pursuit of five-star offensive line prospect Mark Matthews.

Matthews made an announcement on Monday that he will make an official decision regarding his commitment on May 15, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. He will choose between the LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Texas A&M Aggies, and Georgia Bulldogs.

Matthews stands out as a five-star lineman with a 98 score on 247Sports. He is the highest-ranked player from the state of Florida, the top player in his position, and the third-best player in the entire class of 2027. His composite score of 0.9984 puts him at first in the initial two categories and fifth at the national level.

“Athletic offensive tackle with the quickness and mobility to eventually man the hot corner at the game’s highest levels. Still far from a complete product after starting prep career off as a defensive lineman, but has put extremely encouraging stretches on tape while facing stiff competition. Fires out of his stance and initiates contact. Moves with excellent balance and posture. Extends the arc in pass sets with an elite kick slide,” 247Sports’ Scouting Director Andrew Ivins wrote.

“Will unlock the hips on angle/move blocks and get his head around. Darts into space when asked to climb and looks to finish. Must continue to improve technique and work on the hand placement, but is a natural knee-bender with rare big-man twitch that’s very young for the grade. Likely to face an initial adjustment period, but projects as a multi-year starter for a College Football Playoff contender with early-round of the NFL Draft upside.”

Georgia will hope for great news from Matthews at the end of the week. In 2026, he participated in both the Under Armour All-America Game and Polynesian Bowl as an underclassman. He also anchored a St. Thomas Aquinas line that helped pave the way for another Sunshine State 5A championship throughout the 2025 season.
