Frank Thomas sends emotional message on Stacey King’s death

The Chicago Bulls have not been able to come close to the success they were during the Michael Jordan era since that brilliant player led his team to its sixth NBA title in the 1997-98 season. Stacey King was one of Jordan’s teammates on three of those championship teams, and once his career was over, he became a beloved television analyst for the team.

As the team has struggled mightily for many years, King’s colorful and humorous style shined through for the team’s fans. King became an Emmy-winning broadcaster who offered nicknames and signature calls like “Gimme the hot sauce … Let me step back and kiss myself,” and “Drive home safely, Chicago! Beep, beep!”

Multiple Chicago notables offered their condolences and memories of King following the news of his passing. Former White Sox star Frank Thomas worked with King on the CHSN network in Chicago, and had warm thoughts about his friend. “RIP Stacey King! Great Player, Excellent Broadcaster and just a Great Dude. We will Miss you Big Fella!,” Thomas posted on X.

No cause of death has been announced, but it has been reported by multiple sources that he has suffered a fall at his home.

King was part of the Bulls’ fabric

King had an 8-year NBA career, and that included five seasons with the Bulls. He had been a college star at Oklahoma and the Bulls selected with their first-round pick in 1989. In addition to his role on the championship teams, he was also a member of the 1989-90 All-Rookie team.

Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf paid tribute to King. “Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history,” Reinsdorf said. “His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades – first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans.”
