Former WWE star Alberto Del Rio arrested on domestic violence charges

A former world champion, ex-WWE star Alberto El Patrón (aka Alberto Del Rio), has been arrested on an alleged domestic violence charge.

Milenio (via Fightful) reports that Patrón was arrested on Monday, Apr. 6, 2026, for “physically and verbally assaulting his girlfriend.”

According to the report, Patrón’s girlfriend “suffered injuries to her face and arms.” She called 911, and officers arrived while she was “being assaulted and found the victim showing signs of violence,” leading to Patrón’s arrest.

Following his arrest, Patrón was given to the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General’s Office. There, he will face the relevant charges.

Alberto Del Rio’s past arrests after his WWE tenures

Unfortunately, this is not Patrón’s first arrest. Previously, he was arrested for allegedly battering and sexually assaulting his girlfriend in May 2020. He was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm, and was even indicted by a grand jury.

He was also charged with aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault. However, these charges were later dropped in December 2021.

During his first WWE run, Patrón won the Royal Rumble in 2011. He would then feud with Edge (aka Adam Copeland) heading into WrestleMania 27. Patrón would eventually win the World Heavyweight Championship and WWE Championship twice. He also won the United States Championship twice and the 2011 Money in the Bank ladder match.

His first stint in WWE ended in 2014. He was fired in August, and this led to his return to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. After stints with the likes of AAA, Ring of Honor, Lucha Underground, and World Wrestling League, Patrón briefly returned to WWE in 2015.

However, his second return would not last long. WWE released Patrón again in September 2016, and he has been competing in various promotions since.

He has wrestled in Impact Wrestling and AAA since his second WWE release. Now, his future in the ring remains up in the air with his latest arrest.
