Flyers’ Sean Couturier fires defiant take amid 3-0 series deficit vs. Hurricanes

The Philadelphia Flyers caught fire at the end of the regular season to get into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and they exceeded everyone’s expectations with a convincing victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round.

Now, however, the Flyers are experiencing what it’s like to go head-to-head with a true Stanley Cup contender. The Carolina Hurricanes are showing their class so far in the second round, and they dominated Game 3 in Philly on Thursday night in a 4-1 win to take a 3-0 series lead.

While things are looking bleak for the Flyers, who are now just one game from elimination, they aren’t planning to go down without a fight. After the game, center Sean Couturier emphasized that his squad isn’t going anywhere no matter where the series stands, via Siobhan Nolan of The Hockey News.

“There’s not gonna be any quitting, that’s for sure,” Couturier said. “We’re gonna keep battling, stick together, and try to just get a win.”

As the series has gone on, it’s starting to feel more and more like Philly’s chance to make it a series was in Game 2. In that game, the Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Hurricanes eventually evened things up in the third period before winning in overtime.

In Game 3, Carolina’s physicality and depth wore the Flyers down over the course of the game. A Jalen Chatfield shorthanded goal late in the second period broke a 1-1 tie, and the Canes tacked on two more goals early in the third period to blow the game open.

Carolina has been a dominant force so far in these playoffs, ripping off seven wins in a row against the Senators and the Flyers. Now, the Canes will have a chance to close the series out in Game 4 on Saturday and get another week or more off before the Eastern Conference Finals.

On the other side, this has been a successful season for the Flyers regardless of how the rest of this series goes. But if Couturier’s comments are any indication, they aren’t looking ahead to the offseason just yet.
