Flyers GM Danny Briere breaks down laundry list of injuries to 10 players

The 2025-26 season was undoubtedly a success for the Philadelphia Flyers, who advanced to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since in six years before taking down Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Battle of Pennsylvania in Round 1.

Although it ended in disappointing fashion — a four-game sweep at the hands of the still undefeated Carolina Hurricanes — it was a critical step forward for a franchise that has designs on sustained playoff success going forward.

The Flyers have a young and talented club, and as general manager Danny Briere explained on Thursday, they weren’t anywhere near healthy this spring.

A full 10 players were dealing with various ailments throughout the postseason, with Briere specifying exactly what the ailments were for each of them, as shared by hockey insider Frank Seravalli on X:

Some of the Flyers’ injuries have already been made public, mainly the ones affecting Owen Tippett, Christian Dvorak and Cam York.

Others were unknown; Emil Andrae was considered a healthy scratch when he came out of the lineup in the playoffs, but it turns out he was dealing with a fractured wrist that will require surgery.

Noah Cates missed the entire second round against the Hurricanes, which was a huge loss for the team. But his fractured foot won’t require surgery, which is a silver lining for the young forward.

Travis Konecny struggled mightily in the postseason, chipping in just a goal and five points over 10 games. He was playing through both a fractured rib and nasal fracture, while Garnet Hathaway suffered a fracture fibula, Trevor Zegras battled through an elbow ligament sprain, and Alex Bump had an MCL sprain.

Nikita Grebenkin could miss some time to start next season, as Briere said at his end-of-season press conference on Thursday, and they are seeking treatment options for the young Russian.

But every other injured player should be ready for the start of next year, which is a silver lining.

It’s a surprisingly long list of injuries, but at this time of year, many players are battling through something. Nonetheless, it was an inspired campaign for Philadelphia, who took a significant step forward and should be considered playoff contenders in 2026-27 and beyond.
