Florida Gators land 4-star commitment over Auburn, Georgia

The Florida Gators’ 2027 recruiting class continues to gain steam, as four-star quarterback Davin Davidson committed Thursday, following five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller’s pledge a day earlier.

Davidson, a 6-foot-6.5, 215-pound signal caller from Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota, chose Florida over programs including Georgia, Auburn, Kentucky, and Notre Dame. He becomes the fifth commit in the Gators 2027 class, joining Hiller, wide receiver Tramond Collins, tight end Jackson Ballinger, and defensive back Amari Nugent.

Ranked as high as No. 120 overall, the No. 11 quarterback and No. 12 prospect in Florida by Rivals, and No. 155 overall and No. 13 quarterback by the 247Sports Composite, Davidson became the centerpiece of Florida’s quarterback recruiting efforts. His recruitment surged, collecting more than 25 offers since the start of the new year, including 32 offers reported, after a productive junior season.

During that season, Davidson completed 137 of 212 passes (64.6%) for 2,360 yards, with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also contributed 81 rushing yards and three additional scores. His performance led Cardinal Mooney to a 14-1 record and a Florida 2A state championship.

The Gators coaching staff, led by head coach Jon Sumrall, made Davidson a priority immediately after offering him on Jan. 24 during a Junior Day visit. Multiple staff members, including offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and quarterbacks coach Joe Craddock, played active roles in his recruitment. Their consistent communication and emphasis on development, culture, and winning were influential factors in his decision.

A return visit in late March, where Davidson observed spring practice, made his commitment more certain. Florida’s approach and program direction kept them ahead of the pack throughout the process.

Davidson also gained national recognition, earning “Alpha Dog” honors at the Elite 11 Regional in Miami and securing an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles.

With a quarterback now in place, Davidson is expected to help recruit additional prospects as the Gators look to build a nationally competitive class.
