Feyenoord v Celtic prediction

Celtic make the trip to Rotterdam for Thursday evening’s clash with Feyenoord in confident mood having won four of their last five matches in all competitions following a 95th minute winner against St Mirren on Saturday night.

The victory in Paisley saw Martin O’Neill’s side cut the gap on league leaders Hearts to just four points, having played a game fewer, as they chase a fifth successive league title.

The Glasgow side haven’t fared quite so well in the Europa League so far this term, heading into the second half of the league phase with just four points to their name from their four matches played and with just one win, leaving them down in 27th place.

In contrast, Feyenoord prepare for the visit of the Scottish side having recently lost their place at the top of the Eredivisie after a run of four defeats in their last five matches in all competitions.

Robin van Persie’s side had dropped just two points in their opening nine league matches in the current campaign, but defeat at home against defending champions PSV has started a wobble in results that they haven’t been able to recover from.

Sunday afternoon’s 4-2 defeat at home against Nijmegen now leaves the Rotterdam side six points behind the defending champions in the table, and will be eager to get back to winning ways on Thursday against the Scottish champions.

The Europa League hasn’t fared much better for the one-time European champions, who have lost three of their four league phase matches so far and sit two places below their opponents on Thursday night.

The two teams have met before on three occasions, most famously in Milan in the 1970 European Cup final, which the Dutch side won in extra time, but their two most recent meetings came two years ago in the Champions League group stage, each side winning their respective home match.

Despite their recent struggles, Feyenoord have won three of their last five home games, scoring 13 goals in that span, while Celtic have won just one of their last five on the road, including three defeats in their last four which leads to believe a 2-1 home win is in store on Thursday.

Feyenoord v Celtic betting tips

Feyenoord fired up

Celtic head to Rotterdam having not had the most enjoyable of opening thirds to a season, currently sat second in the Scottish Premiership and with just one win in four Europa League games and with three defeats in their last four away games.

Feyenoord head into Thursday’s clash looking to get back in form but having won three of their last five matches and with still managing to score goals despite their recent defeats, only being let down by their leaky defence.

Another goal for Ayase

Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda has score more than twice as many goals as any other player on either team heading into Thursday’s clash.

The Japan international has 13 goals in as many league appearances for the Rotterdam side this season, and is currently five goals clear in the race for the Eredivisie Golden Boot.

Scales sanctioned

No player on either team has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards, having been booked on eight occasions so far this season for club and country, including two in his last three appearances, as well as in his recent Europa League outing.
