Fever’s Stephanie White gets 100% real on Caitlin Clark’s performance in preseason debut
With the Indiana Fever preparing for the 2026 season, star Caitlin Clark is looking to bounce back after an injury-riddled 2025 and impress in her third season in the WNBA. As Clark and the Fever took on the New York Liberty on Saturday, it resulted in a 109-91 victory as head coach Stephanie White spoke about the star’s outing.
In the win over the Liberty, Clark would have a rusty game, scoring seven points on two of 10 shooting from the field, one of five from beyond the arc, to go along with four assists and three rebounds. Having played in her first WNBA-style game since July 15 of last year, there was no denying that a rough start was expected, but still, White liked what she saw from Clark.
“She was good,” White said, according to Robin Lundberg. “You know, I think we play differently when she’s on the floor. And so again, learning how to to play with her in the action. I thought she was good, I thought she didn’t force anything, she played with great intention, and everything that she did was in the flow.”

Stephanie White eases concerns about Fever’s Caitlin Clark
As Clark looks to find her groove and once again become one of the league’s best players, this time in the preseason is valuable to go up against WNBA competition. White would downplay the shooting numbers, saying how the sh0t making is “going to come,” saying it’s different than how she’s being defended here than nationally.
“She was communicating at a high level. I mean, if we’re talking about the shot making, like, that’s going to come, they play her differently in the W than they do in international basketball, and so we’ve just got to find ways to free her up, to get her some easy looks,” White said.
Clark looks to bounce back with the Fever’s next preseason game coming against the Dallas Wings next Thursday, who will also be the opponent for the regular season opener on May 9. Indiana is looking to improve after finishing 24-20, losing in the semifinals to the Las Vegas Aces.
