Even Knicks’ Mike Brown was impressed by Mitch Robinson’s poster dunk on Joel Embiid

Madison Square Garden might be in Manhattan, but the New York Knicks made the Wells Fargo Center feel like home on Friday night. Behind a relentless defense and a highlight reel that will be playing on a loop in Philadelphia nightmares, the Knicks rolled to a 109-94 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, taking a commanding 3-0 series lead.

While the scoreboard told one story, the play of the night told another. The defining moment came when Jalen Brunson lofted a perfectly weighted alley-oop toward the rim. Mitchell Robinson soared through the air, catching the ball at its apex and throwing down a thunderous poster dunk directly over a helpless Joel Embiid. 

Even head coach Mike Brown, who usually maintains a stoic demeanor on the sidelines, couldn’t help but marvel at the execution of the set piece.

“We have a few different plays that we’ll do, but that was done to perfection,” Brown said during his postgame press conference. Coming from a coach who has seen his fair share of championship-level basketball, that’s high praise for a team that seems to be peaking at the right time.

Robinson finished the night with a gritty 6 points and 6 rebounds while making life miserable for the Philadelphia frontline. Brunson led the scoring charge for New York, dropping 33 points on an efficient 11-of-22 shooting. Mikal Bridges remained the engine of the offense, orchestrating the floor with 23 points.

The 76ers had no answer for the Knicks’ depth. Kelly Oubre Jr. put up 22 points and eight rebounds, but he looked visibly exhausted by the fourth quarter. Tyrese Maxey struggled to find any air space, finishing with 17 points on a rough scoring night.

With a chance to break out the brooms on Sunday, the Knicks are playing with a level of confidence that has the city dreaming big. If they keep executing to “perfection,” this playoff run is just getting started.
