Commanders’ Laremy Tunsil suffers potential injury at training camp

Washington Commanders starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil left Saturday morning’s training camp practice after appearing to suffer an injury during a 1-on-1 drill against edge rusher Odafe Oweh.

Tunsil was seen getting assistance from members of Washington’s athletic training staff before entering the on-field medical tent. He later went inside the team’s training complex for what was presumably further evaluation. The exact nature and severity of the injury were not known at the time.

“Commanders LT Laremy Tunsil walking off with athletic trainers after getting dinged in 1-on-1s vs. Odafe Owen. Looked like a stinger maybe,” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Andrew Wylie reportedly took over for Tunsil at left tackle after the five-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman left the field.

Tunsil is an important part of the Commanders offensive line entering the 2026 season. The No. 13 overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft spent his first three seasons with the Miami Dolphins before being traded to the Houston Texans. During his six seasons with the Texans, he earned Pro Bowl honors in five campaigns.

Washington acquired Tunsil last offseason to bolster its offensive line. He played well during his first season with the Commanders but missed three games while the team dealt with injuries across its offense.

Tunsil is expected to remain Washington’s starting left tackle in 2026, making his injury status important for the team. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn spoke to reporters before Saturday’s practice and is not scheduled to address the media again until Monday morning.
