ESPN mock draft names 3 possible Spurs targets at No. 20 after losing NBA Finals
The San Antonio Spurs are probably still getting the bad taste out of their mouth from losing to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals, but the front office can’t stay in it too long. The NBA Draft is almost a week away, and they have a selection to make at No. 20.
Having played extra basketball this season, the Spurs should know what kind of player they need to add to the team, and in ESPN’s mock draft, they have them selecting Allen Graves from Santa Clara.
“Graves received strong enough interest to confidently stay in the draft, with his range viewed by teams as starting in the middle teens and running into the early 20s,” Woo wrote. “Where he lands might depend on how things unfold with potential trades, but his excellent analytic profile and demonstrable feel and versatility make him an intriguing prospect. His average athleticism and limited body of work against top competition have made him divisive for some evaluators.”
If Graves isn’t there, the Spurs could also be interested in Chris Cenac Jr. or Jayden Quaintance.
“The playoffs have made it clear that San Antonio needs a bigger frontcourt player who can fit in lineups alongside Victor Wembanyama, whose versatility enables a wide range of looks. Graves would give the Spurs a true power forward who is also comfortable on the perimeter. Cenac and Jayden Quaintance are other players drawing consideration at this spot,” Woo wrote.
In Brett Siegel’s mock draft for ClutchPoints, he has the Spurs selecting Cenac.
The Spurs were small in the frontline this season, and getting a true power forward to play with Wembanyama would be a good move. If that player can provide a level of shooting that the Spurs are looking for, it would make even more sense for them to select them.
