Erling Haaland World Cup bet boosts, top goalscorer and Golden Ball odds
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian marksman arrives at his first World Cup with a reputation as arguably the most feared goalscorer on the planet and a nation desperate to make up for lost time after a 28-year absence from the finals.
Haaland played a huge role in ending that drought, firing in 16 goals across eight qualification matches as Stale Solbakken’s side stormed to the tournament with a perfect record.
Given his goalscoring exploits for both club and country, expect bookmakers to feature Haaland heavily throughout the competition. Golden Boot, Golden Ball, goalscorer specials and shots markets are all likely to prove popular.
We’ll assess his chances of landing those individual honours, explore the betting markets that appeal most and examine whether Norway can help their superstar striker make an immediate impact on football’s biggest stage.

Best Erling Haaland World Cup bet boosts
If there’s one player bookmakers will be desperate to feature in goalscorer promotions throughout this tournament, it’s Erling Haaland. Here are some of the more popular markets.
- To score anytime: This will be the obvious starting point. The problem is that bookmakers know exactly how popular and prolific Haaland is, meaning prices are rarely above Evens. Boosts will be essential.
- First goalscorer: Prices here will naturally be more generous. Norway are built around Haaland and almost every meaningful attack ends with the Manchester City striker getting a chance. Throw penalties into the equation and there’s plenty to like.
- Shots on target: I’d pay close attention to these. Haaland topped the Premier League for both shots and shots on target this season. Nobody pulls the trigger more often. If bookmakers are boosting shots markets, this should be near the top of your list.
- Assists: Probably one to avoid. Haaland managed just two assists during qualification and has only six in 50 appearances for Norway. His role is finishing moves, not creating them.
- Player specials: Golden Boot, Golden Ball, Norway’s top scorer and various milestone markets are all likely to feature heavily. The good news for punters is that Haaland has a stronger case than most.
- Matchday Bet Builders: Haaland goals and shots on target will often come at short prices, particularly against weaker opposition. One way to boost the odds is by combining them with selections involving Norway’s supporting cast, such as Martin Odegaard assists or Alexander Sorloth shots.
Erling Haaland top goalscorer odds
At a juicy 14/1, there’s certainly a case to be made for Erling Haaland to make a mockery of his peers and clinch the Golden Boot at the first time of asking.
Haaland was Europe’s leading scorer during qualification, netting 16 times in just eight matches. To put that into context, the next highest scorer managed eight. Even more impressively, none of Haaland’s 16 goals came from the penalty spot.
The Manchester City striker also arrives after another prolific domestic campaign, scoring 38 goals and registering nine assists in 52 appearances – winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot for the third time in four campaigns.
His international record is every bit as frightening. Haaland has scored 55 goals in just 50 appearances for Norway, including six hat-tricks. In fact, six nations that qualified for the World Cup – Ecuador, Paraguay, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland and South Africa – scored fewer goals during qualification than Haaland managed on his own!
The concern isn’t Haaland. It’s Norway.
Unlike many of his Golden Boot rivals, Haaland has never played at a World Cup or European Championship and arrives as something of an unknown quantity – as strange as that sounds.
Norway have also been handed a difficult group featuring France, Senegal and Iraq, while a potential route involving Ecuador and Brazil would hardly make life easy.
That said, Haaland’s Golden Boot hopes aren’t entirely dependent on Norway making a deep run. He scores goals regardless and can fill his boots in a single match. The bigger issue is that rivals from France, England, Argentina or Spain may simply end up playing more matches. Even so, 14/1 feels a big enough price to take that gamble.

Erling Haaland Golden Ball odds
You can get odds of 33/1 on Erling Haaland scooping the Golden Ball, which has been won by Lionel Messi, Luka Modric and Zinedine Zidane in recent history.
That’s a tempting price on the surface – but probably big for a reason.
Unlike the Golden Boot, this award isn’t simply handed to the tournament’s leading scorer. Instead, it goes to the player judged to have had the biggest overall impact on the World Cup.
The issue is that Golden Ball winners almost always play for teams that reach the final or win the competition. That’s a much tougher ask for Norway than it is for some of those at the top of the market.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Haaland is a bad bet. Every World Cup produces a fashionable dark horse, but few ever make good on the hype. If Norway can, there’s a strong argument that Haaland’s Golden Ball chances could be even stronger than his Golden Boot prospects.

Norway to win the World Cup odds
At around 25/1, the odds tell their own story.
Since 1966, the biggest-priced World Cup winner was Marcello Lippi’s Italy side in 2006 at 8/1. In other words, Norway would need to buck decades of history to lift the trophy.
That isn’t to say they have no chance. Martin Odegaard, Alexander Sorloth, Antonio Nusa, Julian Ryerson and Jorgen Strand Larsen give Norway more quality than many realise, and they are more than deserving of their tag as a golden generation.
What elevates them into the conversation is clearly Erling Haaland. Norway may have quality throughout the side, but if they are to send shockwaves through this tournament, they’ll need their superstar striker to go above and beyond even the highest expectations.
For me, Haaland’s individual markets are far more appealing than backing Norway outright. Hot take, I know.

Best ways to back Erling Haaland during the World Cup
Below are what I believe to be the most attractive Haaland markets heading into the tournament.
- Golden Boot: At 14/1, it’s worth taking the plunge. Haaland arrives after scoring 16 goals in qualification, none from penalties, and has the ability to get halfway to a winning total in one match. He’s that prolific.
- Shots on target: Another market that makes plenty of appeal. Haaland led the Premier League for both total shots (126) and shots on target (59) this season, while also topping European qualifying for shots (41) and shots on target (28).
- Anytime goalscorer: The odds are rarely spectacular, but boosts could make this a worthwhile angle. Haaland remains Norway’s focal point and finished qualification with 16 goals. The next highest scorer in the squad was Alexander Sorloth with five.
- Golden Ball: More speculative, but potentially interesting. If Norway make a surprise run through the knockout stages, Haaland will almost certainly be central to it.

Erling Haaland previous World Cup record
This section is simple. Haaland has never played at a World Cup.
In fact, he has never appeared at a major international tournament full stop.
Now, that creates both risk and opportunity. While we have no evidence of how Haaland performs at a World Cup or European Championship, his record in the Champions League and Premier League suggests he won’t be fazed by the occasion.
What we do know is that his international goalscoring record is extraordinary. Haaland has scored 55 goals in just 50 appearances for Norway, including six hat-tricks.
Whether that translates onto football’s biggest international stage remains to be seen, but very few players have arrived at a World Cup with a stronger goalscoring CV.
Final verdict
One of the most tempting things about backing Erling Haaland at this World Cup is the price. He’s more than double the odds of Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane, yet there are enough positives surrounding both the player and Norway to suggest you’ll get value for money.
So yes, I’m taking a punt on him to win the Golden Boot at his first major international tournament. Even an each-way bet at 14/1 would return a profit.
Elsewhere, I’d be looking at shots and shots on target boosts, while enhanced anytime goalscorer prices would also be tempting. The one market I’d probably avoid is the Golden Ball, which is usually reserved for players who reach the final, while assist markets hold little appeal given Haaland’s instinct is almost always to shoot rather than pass.
