Eintracht Frankfurt are one of just four teams to have had their elimination from the Champions League confirmed with a game to spare after losing five of their seven games in Europe so far this season.

Dennis Schmitt is currently in caretaker charge of the German side following the sacking of Dino Toppmoller just over a week ago, but defeats in each of the 32-year-old’s games so far means the club head into Wednesday’s bout with just one win in their last 11 matches, and three defeats in their last four.

The loss of form has seen the Eagles drop to seventh in the Bundesliga table, now nine points off the top four, and have won just one point from their last seven Champions League games, including a humbling defeat in Azerbaijan last week against Qarabag.

The two sides will be familiar opponents for each other, having met twice in April last year for the quarter finals of the Europa League, drawing 1-1 in London before Spurs won 1-0 in Frankfurt en route to ending their 17-year trophy drought.
