EFL boss shown red card at half-time as club is forced to post explanation

Wycombe were forced to explain the whereabouts of boss Michael Duff who failed to appear for the second half of Saturday’s match.

Duff was nowhere to be seen in the dugout of his side’s 3-0 victory over Burton Albion in League One after being sent off during the half-time interval.

Fans in attendance at Adams Park were none the wiser on the whereabouts of the 48-year-old – prompting the club’s social media account to announce what had happened.

Statement

As the second half was kicking off, Wycombe posted on X: “Michael Duff has been shown a red card during the half-time interval, and will therefore not be in the dugout for the second half.”

The reasons surrounding his dismissal are yet to be known, with first-team coach Alex Morris, who spoke to the press after the match, failing to state the reason for Duff’s dismissal.

He instead declared that Duff was in good spirits after Wycombe racked up their second successive league win.

Morris said: “He’s pleased, obviously he was frustrated not to be out there because you can’t affect and influence the game like you want to as the manager when you’re sat indoors.

“But he’s pleased with how the boys responded, he was pleased with the way they’ve reacted to the adjustments that we made at half-time.

“And ultimately, we closed the game out really professionally, and we move on to Tuesday night.”

Duff was on the bench as his side went in at half-time 1-0 up thanks to Caolan Boyd-Munce’s 15th-minute stunner from range.

And his absence only appeared to galvanise his side who went on to score twice after the break.

Goals from Luke Harris and Nathan Lowe brought an end to proceedings as Wycombe moved up to ninth in the table.

The win leaves them just two points adrift of a play-off place.

After agonisingly missing out on promotion to the Championship last season, Wycombe are hoping they can get over the line this time around.

Whilst their home form has been efficient, consistency away from Adams Park remains a concern.

Wycombe have picked up just 14 points from 16 away matches this season.

It ranks among the one of the poorest records in League One.

League One round-up

Elsewhere in League One, Cardiff bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Plymouth by sweeping aside Doncaster 4-0 at Eco-Power Stadium.

The Bluebirds remain top of the table, but Lincoln sit hot on their heels thanks to their own 4-0 demotion on Blackpool.

Lincoln sit just one point adrift of Cardiff with a ten-point gap between them and third-placed Bolton.

The Trotters were also in final goalscorer form with a 5-1 win at Exeter

Other play-off hopefuls Bradford and Stockport both slipped to defeats at Reading and Stevenage respectfully.
