Dublin Racing Festival betting tips and selections for day two

Dublin Racing Festival action comes from Leopardstown on Sunday and it’s a cracking card in prospect.

It features a quartet of Grade 1 races including a match-up between Lossiemouth and Brighterdaysahead in the Irish Champion Hurdle.

Our expert has a trio of selections on the card including a couple of value plays at the early odds.

Sunday’s DRF Tips

  • 1.10 Leopardstown – Western Fold @ 7/1
  • 2.10 Leopardstown – Found A Fifty @ 10/1
  • 3.20 Leopardstown – Lossiemouth @ 6/5

1.10 Leopardstown – Western Fold

Final Demand is one of the big hype horses of this season and arrives unbeaten after a Grade 1 success at Limerick over Christmas to make it two from two over fences. However, that was a poor race for the grade, facing just three rivals and there’s a lot more depth in Sunday’s opposition.

The one that might be worth taking a chance on is Gordon Elliott’s charge, Western Fold. He had Affordale Fury in behind when winning Gowran’s Grade 2 Champion Chase and that form received a major boost when the runner-up scored in the Savills Chase with the likes of Galopin Des Champs in behind.

Western Fold subsequently finished third in the Down Royal Champion Chase where Affordale Fury reversed form but they have been two cracking runs in open company and he looks like a major threat returned to a novice chase.

It can be argued he sets the standard in this contest and looks like an each-way play in the race provided that his four rivals stand their ground.

2.10 Leopardstown – Found A Fifty

Majborough looks like another vulnerable favourite at Leopardstown on Sunday having shown vulnerability over the larger obstacles and the second favourite, Marine Nationale, would surely prefer quicker ground than what’s likely.

On that basis, it might be worth taking a flyer on one at a bigger price and the one that appeals most is Found A Fifty.

He posted a career-best on a very testing surface at Navan earlier in the campaign before getting the better of Majborough at Cork and the ground was probably on the lively side for him at this venue over the Christmas period.

If a return to slower conditions help spark a revival, he could be the value play each-way at double figure odds.

3.20 Leopardstown – Lossiemouth

Lossiemouth looked like good value for the winning margin when beating Brighterdaysahead over Christmas and it’s a slight surprise they’re so close in the betting for their rematch.

The Rich Ricci mare went off odds-on for this race last year but came down after an uncharacteristic mistake and her only other recent defeat came at the hands of Constitution Hill in the 2024 Christmas Hurdle.

A return to slower ground should be in her favour given both her wins on heavy have been two of her most impressive and it helps bring her stamina into play over this distance. With the yard back in form, she could take some beating.
