Canadiens get Noah Dobson injury update before Lightning Game 6

The Montreal Canadiens are preparing for Game 6 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Habs have played this series without Noah Dobson to this point, as he recovers from a late-season injury. There was hope he would be back for Game 6, but that won’t happen. Montreal did receive an update on his condition, all the same.

“Noah Dobson is not on the ice for Montreal. He’s getting closer, was told it was 50-50 for tonight but not surprised the Canadiens would want to be as cautious as possible before giving him the clearance to come back,” The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported on Friday before Game 6.

The Canadiens have fared well enough without Dobson in the lineup. Montreal has the chance to eliminate the Lightning with a win on Friday night. They won Games 1, 3, and 5 to take a 3-2 series lead over Tampa Bay.

In saying this, Dobson certainly elevates the Habs’ lineup. They traded for the star defenseman in a deal with the New York Islanders last summer. He played 80 games for the Canadiens this season, scoring 12 goals and 47 points in his debut season in Montreal.

Adding him back to the lineup would give Montreal another fantastic offensive presence in the lineup. He could add a dimension to Montreal’s lineup that would give the Lightning’s defense fits. And he could give them an important advantage in a series that has had five straight one-score games.

The Canadiens are being cautious with Dobson, as LeBrun mentioned. If they lose on Friday, though, perhaps they bring him into the fold for Game 7. Of course, they could give him extra rest with a win on Friday night against Tampa Bay.
