Draymond Green’s brutal Charles Barkley jab backfires as stats expose Warriors star’s Inside the NBA take

Draymond Green hurled a pointed insult at Charles Barkley in a tense Inside the NBA segment.

The Mound Round of Rebound sparked the row by claiming the Golden State Warriors dynasty had aged out of relevance.

“It’s over for the Warriors. No disrespect. It ends for every old team,” Barkley said. “You had your run; you get old.

“You let Klay [Thompson] go. You and Steph [Curry] are on the backside of your careers; it just passed you by.”

Barkley did admit that the Warriors put on “one of the greatest runs ever”, but insisted Father Time remains undefeated.

“Sports, listen, sports are for young people,” he added. “You hope to have a great long career, but sports, nobody wins when they’re 37, 38.”

Warriors forward Green clearly didn’t like Chuck’s comments.

“Yeah, I mean, I think the goal is just to not look like you in the Houston Rockets uniform,” he fired back.

Draymond Green’s career vs Charles Barkley

Barkley headed to the Rockets in 1996, unsuccessfully trying to finally add an NBA Finals victory to cap his Hall of Fame career.

Barkley averaged 22.1 points and 11.7 rebounds over a stellar time in the NBA, but those numbers dropped to 14.5 and 10.5 in his final season in H-Town.

Green averaged 8.4 points and 5.5 rebounds in 2025 and his career high for a season was 14 points per game with 9.5 rebounds in 2015-16.

In other words, his best is far short of Barkley’s worst.

At 36, Green is unlikely to hit those numbers next season as he chases a fifth ring, but claimed that remains the target.

“I think understanding what is success at this point is key for us,” Green explained. “Knowing and understanding that it may not be realistic to win a championship, but can we continue to build to that so that once we leave this organization, it’s still in a great space?”

In truth, Green didn’t seem that convinced as he made his case and the Warriors will have a tough road to relevance after finishing 10th in the West and losing in the play-in tournament. Coach Steve Kerr’s future is also up in the air.

“We had that hug for a reason,” he admitted during his clash with Barkley. “We’re not oblivious. This could be it.”

He still has plenty of fire in him, however, and could be a major addition to sports broadcasting when he decides to leave the hardwood.

Green has a $27.6 million player option to stay in Golden State and could become an unrestricted free agent if he declines it.

It is likely he would rather retire than leave the Bay Area.

“I don’t want to [wear another jersey],” Green explained on his Inside the NBA stint. “It’s not something I’ve imagined over the last few years of my career. Early on in your career, you kinda like, ‘When is this gonna come to an end?’

“For me, no, I don’t see myself in another uniform, but I am also understanding of this business and know that it takes them to want me as much as I want them in order for it to continue.”
