Leicester set to sign Premier League winger with medical imminent

Leicester City are set to sign Wes Burns as the Ipswich Town winger prepares for a medical with the League One club.

Burns helped the Tractor Boys to a second promotion in three years, but he is free to leave, and the Foxes are believed to be close to his signature.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Burns will be leaving Ipswich ahead of the new Premier League season to join up with Russell Martin‘s men.

He’s not the only new addition with Admir Bristric also joining Leicester.

The 23-year-old striker currently plays for Olimpija Ljubljana after returning from his loan spell with fellow Slovenia side Bravo.

The striker is a former Bosnian Under-21 international with six goals in 14 appearances.

He scored 13 goals last year and strengthens a position that Leicester desperately needed bodies.

After the arrival of Conor Chaplin, once Bristric signs, Leicester will have two strikers.

Burns, meanwhile, is set to become just the third senior winger in the squad as Leicester look to bounce back from two consecutive relegations.

The Welsh international is a League One veteran, having made 260 appearances in England’s third tier.

In that time, he has 43 goals and 34 assists, adding some much-needed experience and goals to this Leicester side.

Leicester transfers so far

After demotion to League One, there has been a huge swathe of changes to the Foxes squad.

Abdul Fatawu has left to join Ipswich in a deal worth around £20million.

Manchester City beat Arsenal to the signature of talented teenager Jeremy Monga in a £12.5million deal.

And Bilal El Khannouss has completed a permanent switch to Stuttgart.

Victor Kristiansen has departed on loan, while Patson Daka has joined Hamburg on a free after his contract expired.

Ricardo Pereira, Asmir Begovic, Jamaal Lascelles, Jordan Ayew and Jannik Vestergaard have all left too.

In their place, Leicester haven’t spent a lot.

But they’ve managed to convince striker Chaplin to drop down from the Premier League to League One.

Experienced goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has arrived from Southampton.

Liam Cullen has left the Championship and Swansea City to play for Martin again, having worked together while in Wales.

Wout Faes and Woyo Coulibaly are also back from their respective loans.

They start their campaign off in the Carabao Cup against Northampton Town, and you’ll be able to keep across that action on GameDay Live with Adrian Durham, Micky Gray and Ben Mee.

They then start the League One season off the following week away to Notts County.

Ahead of the new campaign getting going, Martin is happy with the work Leicester have put in.

Speaking after a 1-0 defeat to Genoa, he said: “I thought we played brilliantly tonight.

“I really enjoyed it. We were really dominant, had so many chances and up to about 70 minutes, they only had one shot on goal. We limited them to not much at all. I’m disappointed with the goal we conceded, but it’s pre-season.

“They brought on 11 fresh faces [in the second half] and we had the same team on, so it changes the game a little bit. Because we had a game today as well, we’re making subs with really young guys who did brilliantly and they’ve done great in pre-season.

“They did us proud. The team showed the identity we want. They’re so hungry to run, are brave on the ball and show real aggression out of possession and with the ball. We should have scored a fair few goals tonight, so I’m disappointed about that, because we had some brilliant chances.

“We’re playing against really top opposition, the same against Coventry today at the training ground. We’re playing against two top-flight sides and both teams, all the players involved, were fantastic.

“It has been great. On the whole, I’ve been really happy. The players are in a good place. Hopefully the fans enjoyed the performance. Obviously, a disappointing result [to end] pre-season, but hopefully they saw enough to be really excited, because I’m excited about this team and what it can produce.”
