Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow accomplishes impressive feat vs. Astros

Coming off an inconsistent start, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow took on the Astros on Wednesday. However, he left the game with a back injury. But before he left, Glasnow accomplished an impressive feat, according to a post on X by Fox Sports MLB.

The 11-year veteran took a long climb to the 1,000-strikeout mark. It wasn’t because he didn’t have a high strikeout rate. His career mark of 11.3 per nine innings shows dominance. However, Glasnow has struggled to stay healthy. His season-high for games started was 22 in 2024 with the Dodgers. He hasn’t sniffed the 30-start mark in his career.

In his first six starts this season, Glasnow recorded an ERA of 2.56 and was 3-0 with 47 strikeouts in 38.2 innings. The bad timing of the injury comes amid the fact that Glasnow may have been starting a career season, according to DodgerBlue.com.

“I think just keep the same mound presence,” manager Dave Roberts said of how Glasnow could continue his good start, before the injury setback. “Use his pitch mix, attack hitters, regardless of circumstance. Just kind of stay in the moment, slow the game down.

“And I think he’s done a very good job of that recently, as far as the second half of last year, throughout the postseason. So I think that, actually, I know he’s in a really good spot. And so just more of that. And just to get the first one out of the way is a big step.”

Roberts said last year’s playoff performance boosted Glasnow into 2026. He had an ERA of 1.69 in six appearances with three starting assignments.

“I do know that we personally have really gotten a lot closer, lot of conversations between us and the staff, just kind of trying to figure out who he is, what it’s going to take for him to be consistent, realize the talent that he has,” Roberts said. “So not really sure. I do know that coming out of the ‘pen last year and helping us in something that he’s never done before, I think was a real confidence builder for him, as it should have been.”
