Dodgers place Blake Treinen on IL, calls up trade acquisition

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed back Shohei Ohtani following paternity leave. But he wasn’t the lone Saturday roster move. Blake Treinen entered the picture along with a recent newcomer.

The right-handed pitcher Trienen is dealing with a notable MLB Injury, which is elbow inflammation. But the franchise immediately moved up newly acquired Chayce McDermott.

Ironically, McDermott receives the call before facing his former team the Baltimore Orioles. The American League representative traded McDermott back on April 26. He once became highly-regarded as an Orioles product. But McDermott spent most of his time in the minor leagues featuring stops in Norfolk, Fayetteville and more recently Oklahoma City.

The latter stop, though, was through the Dodgers as McDermott threw for their Triple-A affiliate. He’s taken the MLB mound in only five games during his career. He produced a 4.38 ERA with the Comets before Saturday’s decision.

McDermott tossed the baseball around to get up to speed with the Dodgers’ system down in OKC. Now manager Dave Roberts pulls him up for depth on the mound reasons.

Now the former Oriole can share the bullpen with the versatile Ohtani and Treinen, once the latter is healthy to return. Los Angeles owns a 49-27 overall record before facing Baltimore inside Chavez Ravine.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto received the start on the hill. He forced three ground outs to set the tone in the first inning, including on the first pitch. Yamamoto mixed between the four-seam fastball, splitter and sinker through his first four pitches. He only walked one Oriole but left Pete Alonso stranded at first.
