Dodgers’ Blake Snell lasts just 3 innings in rough return vs. Braves

Blake Snell entered Chavez Ravine on a bobblehead night dedicated to him versus the Atlanta Braves. The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed him back after shoulder inflammation sidelined the star pitcher.

Unfortunately Snell endured a rough evening on the hill the comeback from his MLB Injury. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts pulled Snell after only three innings after Atlanta leaped to a 5-0 lead. The short time deflated the fan energy for Snell’s return back home as he settled for 77 total pitches.

The Braves jumped on Snell immediately with leadoff batter Mauricio Dubon. He faced an 0-2 count before chipping a single toward center field, hitting against Snell’s four-seam fastball that topped at 97 miles per hour.

Atlanta pressured Snell some more during the top of the first by loading the bases up on a walk and infield single. Snell struck out Matt Olson in response, fanning him with a 89 mph slider. But Austin Riley grounded into a fielder’s choice that drove one runner in for the early 1-0 lead.

Olson and Ozzie Albies buried Snell deeper during the second inning. Both drove two runners home apiece off their RBI singles that extended the lead to 5-0.

Snell managed to strike out one more batter and left no one on base during the third. But Roberts decided he saw enough out of the pitcher who originally appeared to be needing more time for rest. Jack Dreyer relieved Snell for the fourth inning, forcing a double play during his early action.

Edgardo Henriquez took over after Dreyer but surrendered a double toward right field facing Michael Harris II in the fifth. Atlanta led 6-0 through seven innings.
