Devdutt Padikkal scores impressive century in India's warm-up match against SLC XI

Devdutt Padikkal scored a century for India in the three-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo, with the milestone arriving on Day 2 of the fixture on August 8, 2026.

Padikkal reached three figures with a powerful pull through mid-wicket. One ball before the milestone, a caught-and-bowled chance was put down by the bowler, and the left-hander made full use of the reprieve to bring up his hundred.

Sri Lanka XI's first innings and India's reply

The BCCI's verified X account celebrated the innings, describing Padikkal as a left-handed batter and sharing a four-photo collage of the Karnataka player in white cricket attire. The post linked to bcci.tv for further match coverage.

The visitors had lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal early as he departed for a silver duck. At one stage, Padikkal was unbeaten on 44 off 52 balls, and KL Rahul was unbeaten on 23 off 48 as the pair steadied the innings at 67/1. Rahul was eventually dismissed, and Padikkal continued to anchor the batting effort. After completing his century, Padikkal walked off, with Rishabh Pant then joining Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.

Sri Lanka XI had posted 363/8 declared in their first innings. Nishan Fernando contributed 66, Ravindu Rasantha made 71, and Sonal Dinusha added 52. Kuldeep Yadav was India's most effective bowler in that innings, finishing with figures of 2/76.

Speaking of Padikkal, the left-handed batter made his Test debut in the fifth Test of the India versus England series in March 2024, scoring 65 runs off 103 balls in his debut outing in Indian whites. The Coorg-born cricketer had previously made his T20I debut for India against Sri Lanka on July 28, 2021, establishing himself as a regular option across formats at the international level.

The warm-up fixture at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground is a three-day match. With the century complete and the lower middle order at the crease, India will look to build a substantial first-innings total in the remaining play.
