Dez Bryant rings death knell for Knicks before NBA Finals vs. Spurs
Crank up “Livin’ La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin and wear your beaded chokers because it is 1999 all over again in the NBA Finals. The New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs will have a rematch in the ultimate round after 27 years to determine who will take home the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
The last time the two teams battled in the NBA Finals, Jalen Brunson’s father, Rick Brunson, was still playing for the Knicks, while De’Aaron Fox was just one year old. Victor Wembanyama’s parents probably have not even met yet.
The Knicks and the Spurs took opposite routes in getting to the NBA Finals. New York swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, while San Antonio had to go through a seven-game war against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
With the Knicks being well-rested and riding on an 11-game winning streak, many believe that they have the advantage against the Spurs. NFL legend Dez Bryant, however, begged to differ, claiming that San Antonio will win it all.
“All my New York people, you know I love y’all. But that little run you guys had in the East, on June 3rd, it’s over. Let’s go, Spurs!” wrote Bryant on X.
The Knicks and the Spurs split their two meetings in the regular season.
Bryant starred for the Dallas Cowboys from 2010 to 2017, so, of course, he will root for a fellow team in Texas. While the three-time Pro Bowler is strongly associated with Dallas, his support for the Spurs reflects a broader allegiance to the Lone Star State.
The former wide receiver, who retired from the NFL in 2020, has frequently posted about the NBA, expressing his admiration for various teams and players, including LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Game 1 of the NBA Finals is on Wednesday.
