Darryn Peterson uses 1 word to sum up feeling before NBA Draft
There are only two days left before the 2026 NBA Draft, and for a few young men, the opportunity of a lifetime is on the horizon. Many talent evaluators believe that this draft class is stacked, especially at the top — with Kansas guard Darryn Peterson being one of the most hyped up prospects in this year’s crop.
Peterson is one of the players rumored to be in the mix to go first overall in this year’s draft, and for good reason. He is a dynamic ballhandler and shot-creator, the kind of player that teams can build their offense around. Will the Washington Wizards decide that he’s worth picking first overall? That remains to be seen.
Nonetheless, Peterson knows how fortunate he is to be in this position, and he used the most apt word to describe what he’s feeling with his big day being just a mere few days away.
“One word? Blessed,” Peterson said in a video posted by the official NBA account on X (formerly Twitter).

Indeed, Peterson is indeed blessed to be one of the first people to hear their name called on Tuesday when the NBA Draft comes around.
The potential Peterson possesses is tantalizing, but his lone season in Kansas was downright polarizing. This past season raised plenty of questions regarding his health and motor, as it seemed as though he wasn’t ever running at full speed. But Peterson passes the eye test with flying colors, as he flies around the court and is quite the jitterbug with the ball in his hands.
However, the Wizards already have Trae Young (assuming he re-signs on a huge contract), while Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson are also recent draftees who will command their fair share of touches. Whatever the case may be, Peterson is at least going to be one of the first three young men on Tuesday to shake commissioner Adam Silver’s hand.
