Darius Acuff Jr. fires warning to any team that passes on him in 2026 NBA Draft
Darius Acuff Jr. is one of the 2026 NBA Draft’s most polarizing top prospects. Some scouts and executives view the Arkansas guard as a franchise-altering offensive talent. Others feel his lack of size (6-foot-2) and defense could prevent him from winning at the highest levels.
Acuff has no reservations about his game. The 19-year-old sent a warning to NBA teams about passing on him in Tuesday’s draft.
“Five years from now they will say I was the best player that was going to come out, for sure,” Acuff told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears. “Some people are going to be surprised. But some people in the back of their minds are probably [going to be] saying, ‘We probably should have been saying this.’… My mindset is that I’m gonna be the best player, for sure. That’s just the way I’m carrying it throughout my whole career.”
Acuff turned in one of the most efficient offensive seasons by a freshman point guard in NCAA history while leading Arkansas to an SEC Championship and a Sweet 16 appearance.
Where will Darius Acuff Jr. be selected in 2026 NBA Draft?

The 6-foot-2 floor general averaged 23.5 points on .484/.440/.809 shooting splits with 6.4 assists and 2.2 turnovers per game (2.97 ast/to ratio) across 36 appearances. He elevated his play during Arkansas’ biggest moments, averaging 29.8 points and 6.5 assists on .451/.450/.850 shooting splits across six tournament appearances.
Acuff’s defensive struggles have been a red flag for some scouts. Yet, most analysts view his draft range as 5-7.
While the top four prospects (AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cam Boozer and Caleb Wilson) appear to be solidified, there’s little consensus on the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets’ picks at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. The Sacramento Kings have long been linked to Acuff at No. 7 and are unlikely to pass on him.
Acuff told ClutchPoints at the draft combine what he will bring to whichever team picks him.
“Definitely a superstar point guard,” he said. “[I’ll] bring a lot of excitement to any city I go to… A lot of accolades, for sure. But just being on a winning team. It starts with the point guard.”
ESPN, The Athletic, Bleacher Report and ClutchPoints all project the Nets to select Acuff at No. 6 in their latest mock drafts.
