Daniel Dubois’ former trainer explains exactly what went wrong in Oleksandr Usyk fight
Don Charles believes there were several factors that led to Daniel Dubois’ defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
Charles had cornered Dubois for his stoppage defeat to Usyk last July, but the pair subsequently split.

Dubois was heavily criticised for the decision to split with Charles, with many feeling he had received unjust blame for the loss.
It later became apparent that the British heavyweight’s father, Stanley, had thrown a party for him, which delayed his arrival at Wembley Stadium.
While Dubois’ dad was heavily criticised for his pre-fight antics, his former trainer Charles believes there was multiple circumstances that led to the defeat.
Charles explained on talkBOXING: “Daniel’s known for his jab, a feared jab. Usyk was the one who became the jabber in that fight.
“That was my observation in the first couple of rounds. So that set the precedent for that fight.
“We couldn’t get our jabs going. So, there’s a lot of factors.
“And it’s almost like… it’s too late because we lost the fight. It wasn’t a walk in the park in there.
“The fight concluded in round five. I gave my guy two rounds out of the [fight] I’m not delusional.
“Watch it, honestly. It’s because it went against us.
“So people don’t see anything else that happened prior. I know what happened.

“Daniel, granted, didn’t let his hands go at times when he should. But that fight was in the balance.
“After all, we got caught in the exchanges. The fight was just building up when Daniel got stopped. It took a tremendous shock.”
The Briton was attempting to apply pressure to his opponent in the early rounds.
But Usyk proved too much for Dubois, whose fate was sealed in the fifth round when a looping left hand left him unable to make the count.
What’s next for Daniel Dubois?
Dubois is currently gearing up to make his return, which is being touted for spring.

While he was linked to a clash with Fabio Wardley, their joint promoter Frank Warren has since revealed that it is not on the cards for now.
The exact details of Dubois’ next outing are expected in the coming days.
