Son of Morehouse College president initiated into Omega Psi Phi

The son of Morehouse College President Dr. F. Dubois Bowman has joined the Psi chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Brandon Bowman was recently initiated in the Spring 2026 line at Morehouse, fulfilling a family legacy started by his father.

President Bowman is an alumnus of Morehouse College. Before he crossed the stage, he was initiated into the Psi chapter in 1991, making Brandon’s initiation 35 years later that much more special.

President Bowman spoke about his excitement regarding the initiation into Omega Psi Phi on his Instagram account.

“This has been one incredible year. Returning to @morehouse1867 as president has been extraordinary, but to witness my son choose and become a member of Omega Psi Phi and one of my @psichapterbruhz is beyond special to me and my family. The First Lady and I are immensely proud of our son and “The Unruly 15,” and look forward to the ways they will break the mold in scholarship, service, and excellence at Morehouse and beyond.

To the DP Michael McGirt and ADP Dylan Curtis, well done!

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was established on November 17, 1911, at Howard University. The fraternity was created inside the university’s Science Building—later renamed Thirkield Hall—by three undergraduate students: Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman. They were assisted by faculty advisor Ernest Everett Just.

The name Omega Psi Phi comes from the Greek phrase meaning “friendship is essential to the soul,” which also serves as the fraternity’s motto. The organization’s Alpha Chapter was officially formed on December 15, 1911, with fourteen charter members. A few years later, the fraternity was formally incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia on October 23, 1914.

Omega Psi Phi is recognized as the first international fraternity founded at a historically Black college or university. Since its founding, the organization has emphasized its four cardinal principles: manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift.
