Dan Le Batard Show makes obvious Kawhi Leonard-Groot joke after wild Clippers Marvel revelation

Recently, the Los Angeles Clippers learned that their trade of Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors was being put on hold as Toronto waits for the investigation of Leonard by the NBA to reach its conclusion. The investigation centers on Leonard’s alleged no-show deal with Aspiration, and recently, Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic reported that some of the company’s plans included marketing Leonard as a Marvel-style Superhero.

Now, The Dan Le Batard Show has made a joke at Leonard’s expense, comparing his quiet demeanor to that of Marvel character Groot.

Leonard has indeed become known for his lack of an outgoing personality over the years, but that’s old news compared to the controversy currently surrounding him and the Clippers. Essentially, the Clippers are being accused of using the now-defunct company Aspiration to pay Leonard under the table in order to help circumvent the NBA salary cap, which carries severe punishment if NBA history is any precedent.

Once the Raptors learned that they would be bearing the weight of any potential penalties of the investigation as a result of the trade for Leonard, the organization understandably opted to hold off and see just how severe that punishment could be before following through on the deal.

Leonard is coming off the best regular season of his career last season with Los Angeles, and most pundits still seem to expect the Raptors deal will go through at some point, even if the team has to stomach a suspension or other penalty in the process. The move reunited Leonard with the team with which he won his second NBA championship seven years ago, and it would certainly take a lot for the Raptors to back out at this point.
